Candle Pictures

I'm trying to get used to the manual features of my camera. Is it bad that I've owned it for 2 years and only use the point and shoot option? I was playing around with shutter speed with dark pictures the other night and needed something I could take a picture of when it was dark. Candle it is. I feel like I'm copying burger, sorry!!!

Can anyone guess what this is?

I took it this morning. More playing around with my camera :)

A bride prepares...

I took this picture of my sister last summer (2004) when she was getting ready for her wedding. Almost everything was done at this point, she was just taking a few quiet minutes to sort out her list of thank-yous to make sure she remembered everyone

Dabbling

Okay, so my camera was working again last night so I was taking pictures around my appartment, trying to get a handle of stills. As you can tell, I mostly take photos of Landscpes... I also have a few flower pictures, but nothing artistic. So new plan. Learn how to take pictures of things. These are my shoes.

Stupid camera.

I wanted to take some new pictures, but my camera is doing something weird right now, so old pictures it is. I took a feild course this past spring and we had to do stream sampling early one cold morning. The sun was rising in the early morning sky and starting to peak through the trees with this cute little waterfall. I took a break from doing the work I was supposed to be doing to capture the moment.

Something a little more seasonal

Stopping by the woods on a snowy... afternoon? I took this picture two winters ago when I was taking the course that I'm now TAing. My friend e and I went out one cold afternoon in January to take pictures of our site that we had to develop. This path is now one of my favorite running routes!

Camping in Algonquin

I love camping. Last summer I went camping with my cousin in Algonquin park. The middle day it was pouring rain but the rain stopped for a few hours in the evening in time to see a beautiful sunset over a glass lake. I love the shadow of the tree in the front.

My favorite Picture

I took this picture last summer when I was visiting my sister in Africa. One weekend we went into Uganda to the headwaters of the Nile to go whitewater rafting on class five (aka big water) rapids. After a long, beautiful, day on the water we pulled out for a barbeque and it started to pour rain (typical rainy season weather). By the time we got back to camp (in the back of a lorry!) the rain was coming to an end and the sun was peaking through the clouds about half an hour before sunset. In my opinion this is one of those pictures that ends up being more beautiful than it actually was. I'm just happy to have such a good capture of the wonderful day we had.

My PhotoBlog

So a friend of mine recently started a photoblog. I thought it was a neat idea so wanted to give it a try. So here I am in all my glory; the amateur photographer who wishes she were better.

I took this picture while visiting a friend in Gaspe Quebec. We went out on the St. Lawrence to go whale watching when a storm started approaching us from shore. It was a cold dark day but this scene held a lonely beauty about it.
